Lighting Science Group Corp., a Satellite Beach-based organization at the forefront of global light-emitting diode research and development, designs, manufactures and markets LED lighting solutions for customers throughout the world.
Its innovative patented and patent-pending products are environmentally friendlier and less costly to operate than traditional lighting products. They are designed and engineered to enhance lighting performance, reduce energy consumption, lower maintenance costs and eliminate the use of hazardous materials.
Clients in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia consist of residential, commercial, military facilities, infrastructure, government agencies and NASA.
Among the many projects is the New York City Times Square New Year’s Eve ball and Bryant Park Ice Rink holiday lighting.
Lighting Science collaborated with others to create a new, three-times-brighter and 20 percent more energy-efficient 12-foot-wide New Year’s Eve ball, used in 2008 and 2009, that is then reprogrammed throughout the year to commemorate other occasions, changing various colors and patterns.
Among other U.S. lighting projects are for the new World Trade Center; the top of the Time Warner Center; and numerous ”turtle lights” that have been placed on Brevard County and other Florida beaches for use during turtle-hatching season.
In 2008, the company won the New York City Street Light competition.
LED lighting saves energy, is sustainable and recyclable, using cradle-to-grave technology.
Four product lines include residential, symmetry (commercial), infrastructure and white lights.
According to Ivars Lauzums, Lighting Science director of sales-engineering, LED lights last an average of 7.5 years, are environmentally safe and eco-friendly. All Lighting Science products meet or exceed Federal Communications Commission guidelines and have Underwriters Laboratories and Canadian Standards Association approval.
Chief Executive Officer Zachary Gibler said he was “not sure that the company’s presence will necessarily impact the growth of the area,” but added: “If Lighting Science Group is successful in its efforts, suitable facilities are available in the area, and the area offers the company’s employees and prospective employees suitable residential opportunities, I believe that Lighting Science can have a positive impact.”
The growing company maintains official headquarters at 1227 S. Patrick Drive, Building 2A, Satellite Beach, with additional offices in Europe, Asia and Australia.
